boiler3.jpg (39236 bytes) On all types of Boiler Frontsand Furnaces there is a high risk of fire in the area of the burners.

The ambient temperatures and physical restraints often preclude the use of conventional smoke and heat fire detectors.

However, Linear Heat Detecting Cable can be employed giving early warning of fire conditions in the burner area.

The ambient temperature must be considered and it should be noted that the Linear Heat Detection Cable must not be positioned where the long term temperature exceeds 70ºC.

The Linear Heat Detector is placed on a horizontal framework so that approximately 10 metres of cable covers an area of 1 metre square. The framework is placed above each burner or group of burners so as to monitor the incoming fuel line or ducting.

The arrangement of the LHD zones is generally decided by the fire fighting procedures, but it is practical to cover a number of burner areas as one "zone" where discrimination between burner areas is not required.

Each zone will require a length of the appropriate Linear Heat Detection Cable and a Zone Monitor (see data sheets).

The zone monitors can be mounted adjacent to the zone and as well as an actuation signal for sprinklers or other extinguishants they provide repeat signals to a control area (via a suitable interposing cable). Where this cable traverses other zones it should be of the short time fireproof type.

At an area control panel the status of a number of zones may be displayed using either an annunciator matrix or a graphic display.
